Birth in Harmony was founded in 2007 by Severine Degnan, a certified Birth Doula. Severine Degnan immigrated from France in 1998.
After
the birth of my daughter in June 2006, I realized that my birth was a
gift from her. It had changed me forever and I believe that other
women also deserve a beautiful, sacred, and empowered birth. I felt the
need to share my experience with other women. I started attending births
in the spring of 2008 and completed my certification at the end of that
year.
My philosophy is such that I will support you no matter
what choices you make for your birth, because it's your birth and it's
your baby. I strongly believe that each mom has the right to make
decisions and have choices in regards to her birth. This experience will forever change you, it makes you a mother, it's one of the most important moment of a woman's life.
As a doula, I
work with both parents to help them find their path into parenthood so
they can decide what is right for them and their family.
Since August 2009, I have been a Midwife's Assistant at homebirths and have attended a workshop at The Farm
in May 2010. At the workshop, I learn techniques and the work of an
Assistant. It was fabulous to meet Ina May Gaskin, Pamela Hunt and
Stacie Hunt.
I am a certified Postpartum Doula with DONA, specializing in overnight services.
I discovered Dancing for Birth classes in June 2010 and use the techniques and positions to prepare my clients for birth as well as during labor.
I am also a Wellness Coach, supporting women to reach their life and health goals. I offer workshops to teach and support women who want to conceive and who are pregnant. The food we eat affect our babies before conception and during pregnancy, they grow from our food and lifestyle, this is one of the most important decision and choices you can make.
